Lightning AI, founded in 2019 and backed by Coatue, Index Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures, and Firstminute, is the company behind PyTorch Lightning. The company builds an end-to-end platform for developing, training, and deploying AI systems, combining developer-first software with cost-efficient, large-scale compute through a merger with Voltage Park. This is a foundational hire on a newly formed in-house finance team, owning the procure-to-pay cycle end-to-end. You will own full-cycle accounts payable operations, including invoice intake, coding, approval routing, two- and three-way matching against purchase orders and receiving documentation, and payment execution. You'll manage the exception and payment-hold queue as the primary point of resolution, working root causes rather than clearing symptoms. You'll execute payment runs across ACH, wire, and card with disciplined controls around tiered approval thresholds, wire release, vendor bank detail changes, and payment fraud prevention. You'll own vendor master data integrity, including onboarding, W-9 and W-8 collection, and periodic review. You'll partner with Infrastructure and Procurement on hardware and data center spend such as deposits and progress payments, shipment and receipt timing, and documentation needed to establish in-service dates. You'll ensure capital versus expense classification is applied consistently at the point of coding and flag items requiring technical accounting review. You'll track construction-in-progress activity and support the roll-forward of capitalized costs. You'll flag colocation, hosting, and equipment agreements that may contain embedded leases for accounting review under ASC 842. You'll prepare accruals for received-not-invoiced goods and services with focus on completeness, such as variable and high-value infrastructure costs including power, bandwidth, and colocation where invoices arrive after close. You'll reconcile the AP subledger to the general ledger, along with accrued liabilities and prepaid expenses. The accuracy of what you record flows directly into the fixed asset base, cost of revenue, and financial statements. The role includes designing the process, not inheriting it.
