Salary: USD 111,000 - 173,000 / annual
Prefect is a remote-first company building resilient, Pythonic orchestration and MCP platforms used for mission-critical workloads by Fortune 500 companies and fast-growing startups. This Senior Accountant role reports to the Senior Director of Finance and owns the operating expense accounting function for the company.
You will take primary ownership of the full operating expense cycle, including monthly accruals, cash feed maintenance, accurate transaction capture, and budget vs. actuals reporting. Key responsibilities include managing vendor bill payments (AP), corporate card programs, and employee travel & expense reimbursements. You'll prepare journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations for opex accounts as part of month-end close, ensuring GAAP compliance.
You'll be the go-to person for department leads seeking clarity on their spending and remaining budget. This is a hands-on role with significant cross-functional visibility and autonomy to drive process improvements. You'll partner with department heads to improve budget tracking and forecasting, identify automation opportunities across AP, T&E, and close processes using tools like Ramp, Navan, and Rillet, and assist with federal and state reporting requirements including corporate tax returns, sales tax filings, and 1099 preparation.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of progressive accounting experience at a fast-growing software or tech startup, hands-on ownership of AP, corporate card, and/or T&E processes, proficiency with modern finance tools (Ramp, Stripe, Navan), strong Excel skills including budget modeling, and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Nice-to-haves include CPA certification, Rillet experience, and familiarity with BI tools like Looker.
