Panthalassa is a renewable energy and ocean technology company developing devices that capture ultra-low-cost renewable energy from the ocean for computing and renewable fuel applications. The company is a public benefit corporation backed by leading venture capitalists and philanthropic investors, headquartered in Portland, Oregon.
You will own the accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of Panthalassa's accounting books as the company scales from R&D toward manufacturing and deployment. This is a high-ownership role at the center of the accounting function.
Key responsibilities include executing month-end close tasks on schedule (journal entries, accruals, prepaids, supporting schedules, flux analysis) to deliver accurate financial statements. You will own all balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring every account is reconciled, supported, and reviewed monthly. As the company transitions toward manufacturing, you'll account for fixed assets and capital projects, including capitalization vs. expense decisions and depreciation.
You will oversee transaction flow into NetSuite, ensuring invoices, bills, expenses, and payments are routed correctly and coded accurately by department, project, vendor, and spend category. You'll partner with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement to understand business context behind spend and turn it into repeatable coding and accounting rules. You'll resolve payment and invoice issues, identify manual or error-prone workflows and improve them through automation and AI tools, and build controls and documentation that make the books auditable and scalable.
Additional responsibilities include leading audit, tax, and compliance deliverables for accounting areas you own, and maintaining an extremely high bar for accuracy, confidentiality, responsiveness, and ownership. You'll travel to vendors and test sites as needed and may work longer hours and weekends to support critical needs. The company offers flexible PTO, flexible working hours, and a high degree of autonomy and work-life balance.
