You will join the Frost lab at the Bay Area Institute of Science as an individual contributor scientist, playing a key role in advancing research on brain aging and neurodegeneration. Reporting to Senior Scientist Frank Moss (who reports to VP Adam Frost), you will design and implement innovative experimental approaches using electron and light microscopy techniques.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advanced cell culture and genetic manipulation of iPSC-derived CNS cell types
- Independent design and implementation of light microscopy experimentation, including experimental design, microscope operation, image capture, and quantitative image analysis
- Cross-lab collaboration to bridge in vitro with in vivo models and suggest complementary biochemical and imaging approaches
- Assisting other scientists with microscope image analysis using tools such as Zen, Elements, Arivis, Napari, Fiji, and managing collaborations with the Computer Vision team when appropriate
- Sample preparation for cryo-electron microscopy, including single particle and tomographic imaging
Minimum qualifications:
- PhD in Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Genetics, or related field
- Thorough understanding of light microscopy image visualization, analysis, and processing principles
- Demonstrable understanding of biochemistry and electron microscopy for structural biochemistry
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to collaborate in dynamic teams
Preferred qualifications include experience with iPSC-derived human CNS cell types, operation of confocal and structured illumination microscopes, management of large microscopy datasets, proficiency in Fiji/ImageJ, Arivis, Relion, cryoSPARC, MATLAB, R, or Python, and practical experience with cellular image segmentation and quantitation.
