Chai Discovery is building an AI-powered design suite for molecular and protein engineering, partnering with leading pharmaceutical companies like Eli Lilly, Pfizer, and Novartis to accelerate drug discovery. The company trains frontier AI models that learn biochemical structure and interaction patterns, enabling scientists to pursue targets previously unreachable with traditional methods.
As a Scientist in Protein Design, you will join a growing science team operating at the intersection of drug discovery and AI research. Your core responsibilities include: becoming a deep expert in partners' scientific and therapeutic objectives; serving as a power user of Chai's platform, mastering all technical capabilities; applying creativity and scientific intuition to solve novel biological problems; collaborating with top scientists across pharma partners and Chai's internal research team; and translating field insights back into product, model, and strategy refinements.
You will act as a trusted advisor to some of the most significant drug programs globally, helping solve disease while expanding your own scientific knowledge. The role demands you be the company's eyes and ears on the ground, identifying what works, what doesn't, and where the platform can improve. You will operate with urgency, communicate findings clearly, and drive impact across both external partnerships and internal R&D.
Ideal candidates bring ravenous curiosity, outlier scientific aptitude, and strong collaboration skills. Valued experience includes academic research or industry work in antibody engineering, protein design, and computational methods.
