Hex is a collaborative analytics platform combining notebooks, apps, BI, and AI-native workflows. The company is scaling rapidly with strong momentum in mid-market and SMB segments, serving customers like Anthropic, Cursor, and Brex.
As a Sales Engineer for the Commercial Mid-Market segment, you will be a trusted technical advisor to data teams and leaders (Data Scientists, Analysts, Data Platform Leads) throughout their evaluation and adoption of Hex. You will own the technical sales cycle from discovery through product demos, trials, and proofs of concept, working closely with Account Executives to develop opportunity-level strategy and execute evaluations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as a technical advisor and build strong relationships with prospects during evaluations
- Own the technical sales cycle and partner with Account Executives on deal strategy
- Conduct product demos, manage technical reviews, and project manage architecture and security assessments
- Inform the product roadmap by synthesizing customer feedback for Engineering and Product teams
- Develop content to support evaluations (demo projects, documentation, videos)
- Travel to customer on-sites and marketing events as needed
You bring 4+ years of professional experience, with 2+ years in a Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or similar customer-facing technical role. You have experience with mid-market customers (250-2500 employees) and land POC/technical sales motions. You're familiar with data science tooling and workflows, including SQL and BI tools, with bonus experience in notebooks, SQL IDEs, or app-building frameworks. You excel at communicating with both IC users and senior stakeholders, building empathy, and solving problems. A generalist technical skillset is valued—you don't need a CS degree but should have passion for technology and creative problem-solving. Experience or interest in early-stage startup environments is a plus.
