PermitFlow is an applied AI company transforming construction permitting workflows. The company has raised over $90M (Series B) from top-tier investors including Accel, Kleiner Perkins, and Y Combinator, and serves the nation's builders with AI agents that navigate permitting, licensing, inspections, and project closeouts.
You will serve as the dedicated Sales Engineer for the Commercial segment, acting as the connective tissue between customers' operational realities and PermitFlow's platform. Unlike traditional sales engineers who focus on technical demos, this role consolidates complex operational work—invoice management, vendor onboarding, program monitoring, and customer enablement—so Commercial Account Executives can focus entirely on selling.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as the permitting subject-matter expert on sales calls, speaking credibly to expediters, architects, civil engineers, and general contractors about how PermitFlow fits their workflows across multi-scope programs.
- Map current-state commercial permitting workflows, identify integration points, and design platform configurations aligned with customer goals.
- Own program management for live pilots and accounts, running weekly internal syncs to hold ops leads accountable, triage risk, and keep third parties responsive.
- Generate customer-facing program reporting against KPIs to provide visibility into status, progress, and value delivered.
- Manage billing and accounting liaison work, resolving invoice friction, payment timing issues, and pass-through fee complications that drain AE time.
- Drive customer enablement across growing stakeholder sets—both third parties (architects, engineers, GCs) and internal departments within large accounts—using training as an expansion lever.
- Build repeatable solution and enablement assets: AEC playbooks, due-diligence templates, onboarding lists, and lunch-and-learn materials that scale across future deals.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Implementation, Operations, and Customer Success to ensure solutions are practical and cleanly handed off.
Success is measured by increased AE selling capacity, on-time pilot and program delivery, reduced billing friction, quality and reach of customer enablement, expansion contribution within target accounts, and strength of internal and customer relationships.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep understanding of commercial construction, permitting, or pre-construction workflows. Must have direct experience pulling permits, interfacing with building departments, running permit ops teams, or working in the trades.
- Skilled workflow designer and solution architect capable of mapping customer processes, identifying bottlenecks, and designing scalable solutions across multi-scope commercial programs.
- Strong program and project management experience keeping complex, multi-stakeholder programs on track, holding teams accountable to deadlines, surfacing risk early.
- Sales support experience (discovery, scoping, solution validation) without owning the close.
- Customer enablement and training capability across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Technical translator who bridges customer pain points with product capabilities for executive audiences.
- Cross-functional operator comfortable working fluidly across Sales, Product, Operations, Implementation, and Customer Success.
- Builder mentality—thrives in ambiguity and enjoys creating structure, content, and processes from scratch.
- Mission-driven orientation toward fixing pre-construction fragmentation and transforming how America builds.
