Salary: USD 55,000 - 80,000 / annual
Newsela is seeking a Sales Development Representative (SDR) to drive qualified pipeline for their Core product by engaging K-12 school district leaders. This is a fully remote role focused on high-volume outbound prospecting targeting California school districts, with emphasis on English Language Arts (ELA) and Core curriculum adoptions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute strategic email cadences and daily phone outreach to school administrators, instructional coaches, and district decision-makers
- Lead SDR efforts for the Core product, targeting state initiatives and complex adoption cycles
- Research and identify district curriculum adoption timelines and evaluation cycles
- Qualify district needs through consultative conversations and transition high-potential leads to the Strategic Sales team
- Partner with a dedicated Account Executive to align territory strategy and book introductory meetings
- Maintain meticulous CRM data hygiene using Salesforce, Salesloft, and/or Outreach.io
- Collaborate with the sales organization to inform strategy and shape go-to-market playbooks
- Review calls with the SDR team, share best practices, and iterate on outreach strategies
- Serve as the initial point of contact representing Newsela's mission to empower districts with differentiated instruction
The role offers robust sales training, enablement, marketing, and operations support within a collaborative team environment.
Requirements:
- 3+ years in K-12 education (teacher, administrator, leader, or similar role) OR 1+ year of inside sales experience (K-12 EdTech inside sales highly preferred) with proven track record of securing qualified meetings
- Experience navigating the California K-12 district landscape with understanding of district buying cycles and curriculum adoption timelines
- Experience or background in 6-12 Secondary ELA and ELD (English Language Development) instruction or curriculum adoption (major plus)
- Background supporting ELLs (English Language Learners) and MLLs (Multilingual Learners) through instruction, interventions, or curriculum integration (highly desirable)
- Ability to be a strategic thought partner to Account Executives, researching regional trends, tracking account activity, and managing hundreds of school accounts
- Intellectual curiosity and adaptability; actively seek feedback and master Newsela's full product suite
- High intrinsic drive with excellent time management, organization, and proactive approach to daily responsibilities
- Familiarity with sales platforms such as Salesforce, Salesloft, and/or Outreach.io
- Strong communication skills with empathy for K-12 buyer challenges
- Experience using AI tools to drive efficiency and productivity
- Legally authorized to work in the US
