Radiant is a venture-backed startup (founded 2020) building portable nuclear microreactors for deployment at hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. The company is scaling rapidly with factory expansion, multi-entity structures, and both government and commercial customer pipelines. First reactor testing is underway at Idaho National Laboratory with customer deliveries expected in 2028.
As Risk & Compliance Lead, you will build Radiant's risk management function from the ground up, reporting directly to the VP of Finance. This is a high-visibility individual-contributor role with the mandate to scale into a broader function as the company grows.
Key responsibilities include: (1) Risk Mapping & Liability Structuring—build comprehensive liability mapping across entities and deployment channels, design risk isolation strategies for multi-entity and GOCO/COCO structures, and advise leadership on liability implications of new facilities and market expansion; (2) Insurance Program Design & Optimization—own end-to-end design, procurement, placement, and renewal of insurance programs including Nuclear, Property, General Liability, Auto, Workers' Compensation, and D&O, manage layered nuclear-related coverage requirements, and optimize coverage-to-exposure ratios; (3) Financial Risk Management—develop risk exposure recommendations with Finance, build reporting frameworks and KPIs for leadership and investors, and quantify contingency adequacy; (4) Cross-Functional Partnership—serve as primary bridge between insurance brokers, carriers, legal, operations, IT, security, finance, and regulatory teams, partner with business development on new deployments to embed risk considerations early, identify and remediate compliance gaps proactively, and work with the Regulatory Engineering team on audit-ready documentation.
Required: 8+ years in risk management, insurance brokerage, underwriting, or compliance; Bachelor's degree in risk management, finance, or related field; demonstrated experience designing and procuring multi-line insurance programs; regulatory compliance framework experience with strong preference for NRC or highly regulated licensing environments; experience structuring liability across multiple legal entities; ability to quantify risk exposure and develop contingency reserves with GAAP/statutory accounting knowledge. Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends; 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ required.
