Benchling is seeking a Revenue Accountant to own critical revenue accounting and Order-to-Cash functions in a high-growth SaaS environment. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with deep technical ownership of deferred revenue processes, allowance for credit losses, contract modification accounting under ASC 606, and revenue implications of consumption-based and AI-driven business models.
Key responsibilities include: managing the deferred revenue process end-to-end (schedules, rollforwards, reconciliations); owning the allowance for credit losses methodology through audit deliverables; performing technical analysis for complex contract modifications and leading SSP analyses; establishing revenue recognition positions for consumption-based and AI partnership arrangements; managing professional services revenue (fixed-fee and T&M); preparing quarterly close presentations; conducting revenue flux analyses; and managing designated audit areas during annual audits.
The role reports to the Head of Revenue Accounting with no direct reports, though you will coach the revenue accounting team and review their work. You'll be a core contributor to the revenue close while carrying full ownership of assigned areas. A significant forward-looking component involves shaping how Benchling recognizes revenue on consumption-based products and tracks AI partnership economics as those models evolve.
Required qualifications: BS/BA in Accounting with strong GAAP, GL, and financial statement knowledge; CPA strongly preferred. 7+ years progressive revenue accounting experience in SaaS/software with deep hands-on ASC 606 expertise including complex, non-standard arrangements. End-to-end ownership of allowance for credit losses or similar reserve processes. High-growth SaaS experience spanning subscription and professional services revenue; public accounting or public company experience strongly preferred, with IPO or first-year SOX experience a plus. Track record owning SOX-compliant processes and driving automation. Proficiency with NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management, advanced Excel/data skills, and Salesforce CPQ familiarity. Strong cross-functional communication and self-direction under tight deadlines required.
