VAST Data, a rapidly growing infrastructure company, is seeking a Customer Support Engineer to join its team. This is a resident/onsite role based at a customer site in Dallas, requiring 4-5 days per week on-location.
In this position, you will serve as a VAST Data product expert and trusted technical advisor to enterprise customers. Your responsibilities include managing daily technical operations, handling and escalating support cases, answering technical questions via Slack, and working directly with customers to resolve complex infrastructure issues. You will perform customer installations, upgrades, expansions, and field maintenance procedures on VAST's Universal Storage platform. Additionally, you will lead monthly and quarterly customer review meetings, consult on pre-sales and technical sales activities, identify opportunities for customers to adopt VAST features, and submit feature requests and bug reports to improve the product.
Your work will span diverse applications including machine learning, high-performance computing, and AI applications. You will interface regularly with both customer technical teams and VAST's internal engineering teams to drive issues to resolution.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience in customer-facing, pre-sale/post-sale positions working with complex storage solutions
- Extensive knowledge and experience in enterprise IT infrastructure, networking, and storage
- Broad understanding of enterprise software
- Strong Linux system administration knowledge and hands-on Linux OS experience
- Good understanding of networking with working experience in network configurations on Linux and network troubleshooting
- Bash scripting required; familiarity with one or more programming languages
- Significant experience with file systems and scale-out NAS implementation
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with S3 and high-performance computing
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Ability to manage own time and work independently
- Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time
- Flexibility to adapt responsibilities as business needs evolve
- Bachelor's degree (B.Sc. or MS) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Advantageous: hands-on lab and hardware management experience; experience in rapidly growing, entrepreneurial startups
