Lead Bank, an FDIC-insured fintech bank headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, is seeking a Regulatory Product Counsel to support its Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) and payments businesses. This role combines legal expertise with product thinking, requiring an attorney who can translate complex banking and payments regulations into actionable guidance that enables teams to move quickly within the company's risk tolerance. The Regulatory Product Counsel will provide practical legal and regulatory guidance across partner onboarding, product launch, product expansion, and ongoing partner oversight. Key responsibilities include advising on federal and state consumer lending and payments laws (TILA, ECOA, EFTA, FCRA, GLBA, UDAAP), money transmission licensing, card network rules, and emerging areas like crypto and stablecoins. The role requires assessing how product changes affect legal risk, operational controls, and partner obligations, while helping build scalable review processes and documentation. This attorney will work closely with Product, Program Management, Compliance, FinCrimes, Risk, Operations, Finance, and other legal team members to identify legal issues early and guide product design decisions. The position reports to the Deputy General Counsel and serves as a key member of the risk team. Required qualifications include a J.D. with active bar membership in at least one state, approximately 6+ years of relevant legal experience in banking, fintech, payments, or consumer financial services, and the ability to understand and apply banking and payments laws to novel products and technology-enabled services. Candidates should have experience reviewing consumer-facing product terms, disclosures, and workflows, strong legal judgment, and excellent cross-functional communication skills. Preferred experience includes familiarity with payment systems (ACH, wires, card rails, FedNow, RTP), stablecoins/crypto programs, and prepaid products. Comfort with AI tools and an ownership mentality in a fast-moving environment are essential.
