Anthropic seeks a Regional State and Local Affairs Lead to direct the company's engagement with state and local governments across the Southern United States. This role is critical to advancing AI policy and regulation aligned with Anthropic's mission of ensuring safe AI development.
You will own Anthropic's relationships and legislative/regulatory work across the South, engaging with state legislatures, governors' offices, attorneys general, state agencies, and local governments. Based in Texas, you will travel regularly throughout the region to build and maintain these relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as Anthropic's lead for state and local government affairs across the Southern United States, coordinating with other Regional State and Local Affairs Leads
- Build and maintain relationships with state legislators, legislative staff, governors' offices, attorneys general, and state agency leaders
- Engage directly with local officials—mayors, city councils, county commissions, and economic development boards
- Track state and local legislation and regulatory proceedings affecting AI and technology, provide strategic analysis, and represent Anthropic's positions
- Build partnerships with local and regional organizations including chambers of commerce, economic development groups, labor organizations, universities, and school districts
- Represent Anthropic at legislative hearings, regional events, and public forums, including with audiences skeptical of AI
- Collaborate with Communications, Policy, and Legal teams to develop clear messaging for regional policy campaigns
You will work closely with Anthropic's Southern Regional State and Local Lead and coordinate across Policy leadership, Communications, and Legal teams. Successful candidates demonstrate a track record of political strategy and execution, with specific examples of contributing to complex policy campaigns, building durable relationships with elected officials and community leaders, supporting legislative and regulatory outcomes, and executing with accountability in fast-paced environments.
