Salary: USD 65,000 - 75,000 / annual
Home Chef is a leading meal solutions company founded in 2013, available online and in over 2,100 Kroger grocery stores. The company also operates Tempo, a brand featuring ready-to-heat, nutritionally optimized meals delivered to customers' doors.
The R&D Chef I will conceive and create new recipes for the Home Chef menu that meet nutritional, cost, and ingredient specifications. This is a kitchen-centric role working cross-functionally across the R&D department.
Key Responsibilities:
R&D New Meals: Conceive creative, accessible recipes in the test kitchen that apply to cost, ingredient, caloric/nutritional, and time constraints. Collaborate with the kitchen team to improve and test dishes, incorporating daily feedback on meal accessibility and flavors. Work closely with the recipe development team to ensure constraints are met and that customers can successfully execute meals. Coordinate with the photography team to plate dishes appealingly for menu surveys. Maintain a minimum average rating of 4.00 across all product lines and average a minimum of 3 meals weekly through the Selection Committee process.
Evaluate Customer Feedback: Thoroughly understand how average customers cook and strive to make meals streamlined, quick, and easy. Analyze customer comments from menu runs and beta runs, incorporating learnings into new recipes.
Weekly Culinary Meetings: Attend and participate in weekly culinary team meetings, including Performance Board, Team Check-ins, and Taster Pre-shift with opportunity to lead. Support cross-functional team initiatives, new product lines, ingredient sampling, and supply team check-ins.
Travel: This position requires 0-10% travel.
Requirements:
- Completion of a two-year program such as an Associate degree (culinary degree preferred)
- 10+ years of experience working in a professional kitchen or cooking environment; ability to work in a clean and organized manner
- 2+ years of prior recipe development experience
- Self-starter and highly motivated to create meals that average people can successfully cook at home
- ServSafe or food handling certification preferred
- Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration; works well in group settings to move projects forward, provide constructive feedback, and support overall team workload
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Willing and able to receive feedback and implement suggestions
- Understanding of current nutrition, food, and food industry trends
- Must be able to taste and provide thorough feedback on every meal and ingredient sample test, including vegetarian, pork, chicken, steak, and seafood meals
