Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Quality Specialist to join the Maritime Manufacturing Technology team in Santa Ana, CA. This role is critical to ensuring autonomous surface and undersea systems meet the most stringent quality standards, combining the speed of a technology company with the rigor required for national security.
You will serve as the quality authority for programs operating in harsh maritime environments, developing and enforcing quality systems compliant with AS9100 and Naval Sea Systems Command (NavSea) standards. This is a hands-on position requiring first-principles thinking about quality system design and implementation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, implementing, and sustaining a robust Quality Management System (QMS) compliant with AS9100 and NavSea requirements for maritime hardware
- Championing quality on the manufacturing floor by implementing statistical process controls (SPC), conducting Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and leading continuous improvement initiatives to increase first-pass yield
- Serving as subject matter expert for interpreting NavSea standards and technical publications into actionable manufacturing and inspection processes
- Supporting the Material Review Board (MRB) to disposition non-conforming product and driving Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) processes using methodologies like 8D and 5 Whys
- Partnering with supply chain to qualify, audit, and manage suppliers of critical components and special processes (welding, coatings, pressure testing)
- Developing comprehensive inspection plans, work instructions, and criteria for receiving, in-process, and final inspection; supporting First Article Inspections (FAIs) per AS9102
- Planning and executing internal and supplier audits to ensure compliance and identify improvement opportunities
Required qualifications: 5+ years in Quality Engineering within manufacturing for aerospace, defense, or regulated industries; Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent; demonstrated hands-on experience with AS9100 certified QMS; proficiency in root cause analysis methodologies; experience leading FAIs per AS9102; understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret complex engineering drawings; eligibility for U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred qualifications include direct experience with NavSea standards, maritime systems production (UUVs, ASVs, pressure vessels), special process quality control, ASQ or Six Sigma certifications, active security clearance, experience in fast-paced development environments, and familiarity with PLM/MES software.
