Perplexity is hiring a Public Policy Associate to serve as the company's primary liaison to Congress, the executive branch, trade associations, think tanks, and the broader Washington, D.C. policy ecosystem. This is a relationship-intensive, execution-focused role requiring someone with proven experience working both inside and outside government. You will execute Perplexity's policy communications strategy by translating company positions into talking points, event materials, and rapid-response communications. You'll build and maintain relationships with Hill staff, executive branch officials, trade associations, and civil society organizations. The role involves direct advocacy—taking meetings, delivering company positions, and tracking legislation and rulemakings that affect Perplexity's business, all within appropriate lobbying disclosure and ethics frameworks. Operationally, you'll own Perplexity's D.C. event footprint, from Hill staff briefings and roundtables to product demonstrations and receptions. This includes managing guest lists, venues, logistics, and follow-up. You'll represent the company in coalitions and trade association working groups, monitoring discussions and bringing Perplexity's perspective to the table. You'll also partner with think tanks and civil society organizations on convenings, research launches, and joint programming. A key responsibility is preparing company leadership for D.C. engagements through briefing books, meeting preparation, and post-meeting recaps. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of professional experience, including time on Capitol Hill in a personal office or committee, plus external lobbying experience (ideally with Lobbying Disclosure Act registration). You should have a genuine Washington network built through your own efforts and the ability to expand it. Strong event execution skills, excellent writing ability, and sound judgment are essential. You need genuine curiosity about AI policy and Perplexity's technology, though you don't need to be a technologist. The role requires comfort with the D.C. pace—mornings, days, and evenings. You'll be based in Washington, D.C., in office four days per week, with occasional travel.
