Bolter is an AI agent platform that enables users to describe work in plain language and have AI agents execute it end-to-end, creating shareable apps like trackers and dashboards. The company is at validation-sprint stage with a funded product and a small, high-impact user group. As Product Engineer, you will own the full product lifecycle from rapid prototyping to production. You'll work directly with the GM in a lean team augmented by specialized AI agents. The role spans three core technical challenges: 1. Agent Runtime: Design and build the pipeline that transforms plain-language descriptions into working, reliable agents that retain context, remember user preferences, and produce real, shareable output. 2. Workspace & Agent-Generated Applications: Build the interface where users understand, direct, and trust their agents, plus the infrastructure enabling agents to create usable apps (trackers, dashboards, tools). 3. Production Reliability: Own the reliability layer including evals, error handling, and systems that make agent output trustworthy for real work, not just demos. Key responsibilities include owning the technical roadmap across these domains, making architecture trade-offs (speed vs. reliability vs. cost), shipping working prototypes quickly, leveraging AI tools as force multipliers, recruiting and shaping the early engineering team, and staying deeply connected to product decisions. You should have a track record shipping production software, ideally from founding or early-stage product-led startups. Strong full-stack TypeScript is essential, with depth in LLM application design, production AI reliability, real-time data infrastructure, or developer-facing products. You need strong product instincts connecting technical choices to user outcomes, comfort moving between rapid prototyping and hardening phases, and genuine interest in AI-powered productivity and messaging applications. You're opinionated but calibrated, write clearly, comfortable with ambiguity, and care about craft while shipping.
