Nest Health is a Series A value-based care provider delivering comprehensive medical, behavioral, and social care to America's highest-risk families through in-home and virtual visits. Founded in 2022 by former Louisiana Secretary of Health Dr. Rebekah Gee and Rebecca Kavoussi, Nest treats the entire household as the unit of care, managing chronic conditions, acute visits, mental health, nutrition, vaccinations, and social services navigation.
As a Product Engineer, you will own a complete product surface end-to-end: from discovery through shipped product to measurement and underlying APIs. You'll shape requirements through conversations and one-pagers rather than spec backlogs, and own a slice of the migration from legacy systems (Salesforce, Athena) to Nest's new ecosystem. The product surfaces you build serve four audiences: clinicians in homes, coordinators planning care, market operators, and eventually families themselves. There is no separate design or PM layer—you work directly with users.
You'll need strong taste in interface design and information hierarchy, with the ability to see why showing fewer fields is often better. You must have depth in one half of the stack (Python/FastAPI/Postgres or React/TypeScript) and range across the other. The tech stack is Python and FastAPI on Fargate, Postgres on RDS, React/TypeScript, product AI through Bedrock, all on AWS.
Product sense is critical: you distinguish requests from underlying problems and push back on features that ship cleanly but change nothing. You'll design as practice, not polish—prototyping to learn before building for nurse practitioners on tablets in living rooms and coordinators with nine tabs open. AI is embedded across the job; everyone builds with agents daily. You'll need judgment about rigor: move fast at edges, carefully at core (PHI, access control, clinician-facing features). HIPAA compliance is non-negotiable and doesn't move under timeline pressure.
Healthcare data literacy is essential. No prior healthcare experience required, but you'll learn care gaps and PHI implications for design decisions in weeks, not quarters. This is not a front-end or back-end role—if your interest ends at a boundary, this will frustrate you. It's not a big-team role: no dedicated PM, designer, or platform team. You'll be on calls with clinicians and sometimes in their passenger seat. It's not greenfield: a live business runs on Salesforce every morning, and everything new gets built alongside legacy systems that still must work.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years shipping user-facing product
- Strong in TypeScript/React or Python, competent in the other
- Has designed interfaces people use, not only built them
- Comfortable in AWS, or a clear path to it, ideally in a HIPAA-aligned environment
- Works in an agentic coding harness daily and writes clearly
- Plus: LLM features, offline-first, EHR integration, or mobile experience
Required: Send a link to something you built (product, tool, side project, or teardown). Explain what you were trying to do, one decision you'd defend, and one you'd take back. If work is proprietary, analyze a product you use constantly—what's wrong and what you'd do about it in 2–3 paragraphs.
