Ellevation Education serves nearly 2,000 school districts across the country with software supporting English Learners and their educators. The company is evolving from a suite of point solutions into an integrated ELD (English Language Development) platform, with design playing a central role in defining how information flows and systems scale.
As Product Designer II, you'll work within a cross-functional DevPro team (product, design, engineering) to understand user problems deeply, define coherent experiences, and ship solutions that drive real value. You'll move fluidly between sketching, wireframing, and prototyping—leveraging LLMs to explore ideas quickly and stress-test concepts. You'll use Backpack, the company's design system, to ensure consistency and integration across the platform as it grows in complexity.
The role emphasizes systems thinking: designing workflows that feel like one coherent product, not disconnected tools. You'll conduct user research in the field, synthesize insights for the team, run experiments, and measure success by behavioral change and outcomes rather than output. You'll contribute to design culture, model best practices, and feed improvements back into the design system as part of daily work.
Ellevation's product culture values outcome-focused iteration, early user validation, rapid prototyping, and treating AI tools as on-demand collaborators that expand what's possible within time constraints. Design excellence, accessibility as a first-class constraint, and bringing diverse perspectives into the process are core expectations.
Onboarding milestones: Month 1 focuses on strategic context and relationship-building; Month 3 on active contribution to discovery and prototyping; Month 6 on owning your product area and building feedback loops; Month 12 on deepening expertise and shaping product direction.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of demonstrated success as a cross-functional designer in B2B SaaS or adjacent environment
- AI-fluent: proficient with LLM-assisted prototyping to accelerate ideation and validation
- Design accessibility as a first-class constraint from the start, not a compliance checkbox
- Accountable to outcomes: run experiments, learn from shipped work, measure by behavioral change
- Conduct user research and usability testing in the field; synthesize insights for the team
- Seek feedback and iterate with users, engineers, and data
- Think in systems: create coherent experiences across workflows, not isolated features
- Bring diverse perspectives and empathy for users unlike yourself
- Articulate tradeoffs clearly and contribute to design excellence culture
