Assembled is a customer support operations platform trusted by 400+ companies including DoorDash, Salesforce, Stripe, and Sephora. The company has raised $71M and operates offices in San Francisco, New York, and London. You will lead the next generation of Assembled's design system, defining the visual language, interaction foundations, components, and patterns that enable every product team to build cohesive, accessible, high-quality experiences across desktop and mobile. This role sits at the intersection of visual craft and systems thinking, with a particular focus on establishing patterns for AI-native products. Key responsibilities include: - Lead design system evolution: define visual language, components, patterns, and documentation that help designers and engineers adopt and extend the system thoughtfully - Establish reusable interaction patterns for AI-native products, creating a shared language for how people direct, trust, review, and collaborate with AI agents - Pioneer AI-assisted design workflows in partnership with the Design Systems Engineer, using coding agents to generate production-quality UI and measure system adherence - Partner with product teams to solve complex, data-dense workflows and turn solutions into reusable patterns that improve the entire platform - Enable other designers by creating approachable systems, explaining decisions clearly, and helping teams apply patterns without becoming a bottleneck This is a full-time, onsite role based in the San Francisco office, five days a week (Monday–Friday). REQUIREMENTS: - 4+ years designing and shipping production B2B software, with meaningful ownership of a design system used across multiple teams or products - Exceptional visual craft with a sharp eye and high bar for quality - Strong systems thinking: ability to think in primitives and reusable patterns, balance simplicity with flexibility, and drive consistency across an entire product - Hands-on experience structuring Figma libraries, tokens, variables, components, and documentation for multi-team use - Fluent collaboration with frontend engineers on component APIs, responsive behavior, accessibility, states, and implementation tradeoffs - Ability to enable other designers through clear communication and approachable systems - Bias toward shipping, comfort with ambiguity, and preference for real user feedback over perfection - Excitement about AI-native design workflows and design systems in AI-driven products - Strong communication and collaboration skills across design, engineering, and leadership NICE TO HAVE: - Experience using coding or design agents (Cursor, Claude, Figma AI) to build, prototype, or ship - Experience instrumenting or measuring design-system adoption/adherence - Experience running large-scale component migrations
