Cardless is building infrastructure that enables companies like Coinbase and Bilt to design, build, and launch their own branded financial products. The company handles lending, compliance, and operations behind the scenes while customers control the user experience through Cardless's APIs and components. Founded with $170 million in total funding (including a $60M Series C from Spark Capital in September 2025), the team is over 70 people and scaling toward profitability by end of 2026. This Product Designer role is unconventional. You'll work across multiple domains—sometimes crafting interfaces, other times untangling workflows, mapping complex systems, or finding the language that makes things clear. Your work might live in APIs, customer documentation, cardholder experiences, or internal operational tools. The core challenge: turn backend complexity into something simple and human-centered for multiple audiences simultaneously (customer product teams, cardholders, internal operations). Key responsibilities include: - Design component systems and flows that customers can embed across web and mobile, from single flows (account opening, disputes, payments) to end-to-end financial products - Create documentation, communication, and tooling that shapes how customer teams onboard, get support, and work with Cardless - Partner with Sales to prototype and demo new ideas; shape website, decks, and brand storytelling - Work with Engineering on developer experience: integration guides, reference examples, implementation playbooks - Embed in one operational domain (Support, Compliance, Fraud, Disputes, Ops), then design customer touchpoints, communications, processes, workflows, and internal tools as an integrated system; prototype and iterate using AI tools You'll work directly with Engineering, Product, Compliance, and operational teams. Problems won't always arrive as neat briefs; you'll help define them, iterate across media, use AI to explore, and stay involved as work meets reality. REQUIREMENTS: - Strong product reasoning: know when to create flexibility vs. take a clear position on how something should work - Clear writing and storytelling: ability to take complicated ideas, find what matters, and explain simply - Can get deep fast: learn complex domains, move between different work modes, develop context for good decisions - Technical curiosity: care about developer experience at the level of language and concepts - Exceptional visual craft: your work sets standards and gives others a reference to build from - Hunger to shape what comes next: embrace AI tools (Cursor, Codex, Claude Code) to make ideas real; build missing tools, workflows, or systems for yourself and the team - No specific experience required; portfolio should demonstrate judgment and craft through shipped products, prototypes, system diagrams, documentation, workflows, or Figma files
