Anthropic is hiring a Procurement Operations Business Partner to own the purchasing process for technology spend, including business applications, SaaS tools, cloud and infrastructure services, and engineering/developer tools. This is a high-volume, accounting-focused role that sits within Finance Operations. You will be the primary procurement partner for teams buying software and technology services, managing the complete path from initial request through signed agreement, purchase order issuance, and clean spend data at month-end. The role combines operational execution with financial rigor: every software purchase must be coded, dated, received, and accrued correctly so spend is accurate in the books. Key responsibilities include: **Purchasing Process Ownership:** Manage high volumes of purchase requests, renewals, and license changes monthly. Guide requesters from initial request to signed agreement and PO issuance. Review every request for vendor records, commercial documents, spend categorization, service dates, and required approvals. Determine what each request needs (order forms, data privacy reviews, third-party risk assessments) and route to the right reviewers. Partner with Security on vendor security reviews for every new tool and renewal. Launch and track contract review with Legal, ensuring executed agreements support the PO before issuance. Structure purchase orders to match vendor billing models (seat-based, usage-based, tiered subscription, flat annual) and accounting needs, with correct GL account, cost center, and service period. Track license counts and renewal dates to prevent auto-renewals or lapses, and flag underused or overlapping tools. **Financial Completeness and Accuracy:** Code every PO correctly at creation with GL account, spend category, cost center, and service period. Understand how each choice lands in financials (expense vs. prepaid, annual vs. monthly recognition). Work complex cases with Accounting: multi-year subscriptions paid upfront, mid-term seat additions, true-ups, credits, and mid-cycle amendments. Own the open PO book: track receipts against delivery, conduct periodic reviews, clean up stale lines, correct coding, and ensure timely closures so PO, receipt, and invoice align. Serve as first-line reviewer for month-end accruals on your portfolio, gathering vendor and budget owner estimates for variable spend. Partner with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice holds, PO mismatches, and receiving questions. Support audit and reporting requests with defensible data. **Front Door Responsibilities:** Be visible and responsive in team Slack channels and office hours; answer routine questions quickly and escalate blockers with context. Apply purchasing policy consistently and explain the reasoning behind approval thresholds, signature authority, and exception availability. Translate procurement, legal, security, and finance requirements into plain language for engineers, IT, and business stakeholders. Keep regular check-ins with high-volume teams so upcoming purchases and renewals are visible early. **Continuous Improvement:** Maintain playbooks, intake guidance, and SOPs so the path is repeatable. Identify manual steps, repeat questions, and failure points and fix them, including exploring how Claude and AI-powered workflow automation can reduce work for requesters and the team. Anthropus is exploring what an AI-native procurement operations function looks like, including how AI changes intake, contract and security review, vendor coordination, and requester support. **Requirements:** Minimum qualifications: - Proven track record of owning a high-volume purchasing portfolio end-to-end in a procure-to-pay and intake platform - Solid working knowledge of accrual accounting as it applies to purchasing: accruals and reversals, service period and cutoff, prepaid versus expense, GL and cost center coding. Must be able to explain how a purchase order becomes a general ledger entry. - Experience buying and managing software or SaaS at scale, including seat-based, usage-based, and tiered subscription billing models - Experience owning the tool and vendor lifecycle end-to-end, from intake through security review, contracting, renewal, and sunset, with judgment to know when to push a request through and when to slow it down Preferred qualifications: - 7+ years of procurement operations, purchasing, or vendor operations, including time supporting IT, engineering, or business systems teams - Background in accounting, accounts payable, or month-end close process - Direct experience with Zip, Workday Financials, and Ironclad - Prior ownership of month-end accrual review or open PO reconciliation for a large, variable spend portfolio - Experience with software asset management or license optimization, including identifying underused or redundant tools - Experience designing tiered intake or approval frameworks that sped up low-risk purchases without weakening controls Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Field of study should be relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
