Mistral is a full-stack AI company providing frontier models, developer tools, applications, and compute infrastructure. The company partners with enterprises across finance, manufacturing, defense, healthcare, and the public sector to co-create customized AI systems. The Legal team at Mistral comprises 15 professionals across Paris and Palo Alto, covering regulatory, IP, contracts, and corporate competencies. This Privacy Legal Counsel role is a key position supporting the company's GDPR compliance strategy and serving as the closest partner and advisor to product and engineering teams. Key Responsibilities: - Manage Mistral's comprehensive compliance documentation including records of processing, data privacy impact assessments, and internal policies - Handle data subject requests and implement GDPR processes with automation where possible - Conduct employee training on privacy topics - Negotiate Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with providers and customers - Monitor evolving privacy regulations and guidance from supervisory authorities - Advise product and engineering teams on privacy implications of new features - Answer privacy-related questions across the organization - Update compliance documentation to reflect regulatory changes and business evolution Required Qualifications: - Master's degree in law; bar admission is a plus - 3-5 years of experience in law firms or tech companies, specifically in IT law and GDPR compliance - Strong knowledge of privacy regulations and guidance from national supervisory authorities and the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) - Understanding of artificial intelligence technologies and their applications - Excellent analytical skills with ability to identify compliance issues and develop practical solutions - Strong project management capabilities - Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly - International experience is advantageous - Adaptability and willingness to continuously learn in a rapidly evolving AI and regulatory landscape - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment Mistral offers a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare coverage, parental leave, retirement plans, relocation support, wellness programs, and location-specific perks.
