Newton Research is a well-funded AI software startup building the next generation of media decision intelligence. The company is developing AI agents that leverage large language models and generative AI to help brands and agencies answer critical questions about media effectiveness and optimization. Newton's platform spans media planning, buying, measurement, and increasingly autonomous agentic workflows that execute decisions with human oversight. As Principal, User Experience, you will own the end-to-end design of Newton's platform and lead the design function as the company scales. This is a hands-on role where you will spend significant time in Figma and prototypes, while also serving as the most senior design voice reporting to founders and working closely with product, engineering, and data science teams. Key responsibilities include: - Owning the agent-to-human interface for media: designing how planners teach agents their workflows, direct multiple agents across campaigns, and provide feedback that improves system performance - Designing the full user experience across planning, buying, measurement, and agentic workflows - Making complex analytical output (causal models, incrementality results, optimization recommendations) clear and defensible to non-technical decision makers - Designing approval and control experiences for governed autonomous action - Maintaining Newton's design system and front-end standards as the platform scales - Conducting lightweight user research with customers at brands, agencies, publishers, and platforms - Building and mentoring a growing design team, establishing critique, process, and quality standards - Partnering with product, data science, sales, and marketing on product direction and customer narratives - Developing a point of view on how AI is reshaping enterprise software interfaces The role offers flexibility: candidates can work from Boston or New York offices, or fully remote within the US, with periodic travel to Needham for team and customer sessions. REQUIREMENTS: - 10+ years designing digital products, with deep experience in complex B2B or enterprise SaaS - Demonstrated ability to lead design for a full product surface (not just features); you must have owned the whole product - Experience leading or mentoring other designers, with appetite to build a team from a small base - Portfolio showing data-dense, workflow-heavy interfaces made genuinely usable; data visualization craft is a strong plus - Fluency with modern design and prototyping tools; comfort prototyping in code or with AI tooling - Track record of shipping alongside engineering in fast-moving environments with a real design system - Excellent communication and storytelling; ability to engage with founders, engineers, data scientists, and customer executives - Strong plus: adtech, martech, marketing analytics, or other quantitative domain experience - Strong plus: real point of view on AI-native product design (delegation to agents, transparency, trust-building)
