K2 Space is building the largest and highest-power satellites ever flown, backed by over $1 billion in funding from leading investors including Altimeter Capital, ICONIQ, Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures, and T. Rowe Price. The company has over $1 billion in signed contracts across commercial and US government customers and is mass-producing the highest-power satellite platforms ever built for missions from LEO to deep space.
As Principal Tooling Engineer, you will own the success of custom tooling and structures critical to K2's satellite production and operations. In your first year, you'll work closely with production teams to shape build process decisions, architect tooling systems, and execute on individual tools that support scaling manufacturing and operations rates while enabling large-scale qualification testing for multi-ton spacecraft.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and fabricate tooling and material handling systems for K2 Space satellite bus and associated systems and subsystems
- Lead development of satellite subsystem production fixtures from project kickoff through production and beyond
- Drive hands-on tooling development, sizing and structural analysis of ground support equipment, and continuous improvement of tooling and production operations
- Implement and deliver tooling solutions via a combination of hands-on build and collaboration with in-house and out-of-house fabrication resources
- Provide hands-on support, educate end customer teams, and validate tool performance alongside them
- Help shape the company's foundational tooling strategies and processes as K2 scales toward mass-abundant production goals
