New Relic is building AI Observability as a top strategic initiative, structured as a startup within the company with small teams, fast iteration, direct executive sponsorship, and a mandate to ship. As Principal Product Manager, you'll own this initiative from vision through GA and beyond, serving as the business owner and driving outcomes across multiple engineering and design teams without formal management authority.
You'll own the AI Observability roadmap and business outcome leadership tracks (adoption, retention, expansion), including pricing conversations, executive reporting, and cross-functional escalations. You'll drive multiple engineering and design teams toward a coherent product vision, partner directly with strategic enterprise customers on their AI operationalization challenges, and build working prototypes using agentic AI workflows to pressure-test ideas before committing engineering resources. You'll represent AI Observability in executive strategy and prioritization decisions, making tradeoff calls when priorities conflict. Post-GA, you'll continue iterating on pricing, packaging, and the next wave of features based on customer feedback.
Required: 8+ years of product management experience, including ownership of a product area from early vision through GA and post-GA growth. You must operate as a senior individual contributor who drives outcomes across teams without formal management authority. Demonstrated experience partnering directly with enterprise customers on production AI or LLM systems (tracing, evaluation, governance, cost, failure modes at scale) is essential. You must have regular, current use of multiple concurrent AI agents in your own work, run asynchronously with verification processes you trust. Experience representing a product area in executive-level strategy and prioritization discussions is required. The role emphasizes deep, current AI agent usage—not just tools, but how far along you are in integrating agentic workflows into specs, prototypes, evaluation, research, and go-to-market work.
Bonus: prior observability, APM, security, or developer tools experience; experience in VP/CTO-level customer escalations; public track record of agentic AI workflows; experience building or shaping verification and review systems for AI agents at scale.
