GoFundMe is seeking a Principal, Policy Development to lead policy strategy and execution across the Trust & Safety function. This senior individual contributor role reports to the Senior Director of Policy and carries significant autonomy and influence in shaping platform governance.
You will own policy development across fraud and identity risk, content moderation, campaign integrity, prohibited fundraising, and platform abuse. Key responsibilities include drafting and revising policies based on enforcement data and external landscape; identifying policy gaps and failures; defining clear terms, thresholds, and decision criteria for consistent application by reviewers and automated systems; and mapping violation types to specific consequences (content removal, fund holds, disbursement restrictions, account actions).
You will own policy architecture and coherence across the entire policy corpus, resolving contradictions at the framework level. This includes establishing and extending GoFundMe's policy architecture, owning the full policy lifecycle and performance measurement, and writing executive-level policy proposals that frame questions, options, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
Calibration and operationalization are critical: you will partner with operations teams to maintain policy standards, own the substance of appeals and overturn analysis, and serve as the primary policy contact for automation, detection, and ML partners—translating policy criteria into technical requirements.
You will partner across Trust & Safety, Legal, Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams. The role operates at the intersection of strategy and execution, balancing long-term policy architecture with near-term implementation. The team values clear thinking, direct communication, and bias toward execution. Policies are living documents iterated based on data and enforcement learnings.
