Crux is a capital platform modernizing how clean energy and critical infrastructure projects raise and deploy capital. The company operates across advisory, investments, technology, and intelligence, with 120+ team members backed by $77M from top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, and strategic partners like Pattern Energy and Clearway Energy. The Principal, Investments role leads day-to-day execution of tax equity and preferred equity transactions—including hybrid structures—across the full lifecycle from origination through close and portfolio stewardship. This is an execution-focused position with significant autonomy and growth into independent negotiation and Investment Committee leadership. Key responsibilities include: leading transaction execution from term sheet to close with senior support on complex structures; identifying, structuring, pricing, and documenting transaction risk; building and reviewing partnership and hybrid financial models; preparing and presenting opportunities to the Investment Committee; co-leading negotiations with sponsors and capital partners; collaborating with Legal, Tax, and Risk teams on compliance; contributing to institutional infrastructure (investment principles, underwriting parameters, IC process); and mentoring junior team members. You'll bring 8+ years in renewable energy, structured finance, or infrastructure investing with direct tax equity experience. Required expertise includes partnership structures, tax and capital account basis issues (DROs, basis allocations, safe harbor, recapture), core renewable technologies (solar, wind, storage), and transaction document negotiation. Strong modeling skills, risk judgment, and ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously are essential. Prior experience at a project finance bank or as a developer/sponsor is a strong plus. The role requires willingness to travel up to 25% and obtain FINRA licenses (SIE, Series 79, 63) under company sponsorship. Crux has closed 120+ transactions in the last two years, facilitating billions in capital deployment, and operates a remote-first model with optional offices in DC, NYC, and SF. The culture emphasizes high ownership, rapid growth, and combining deep finance expertise with AI-forward tools and technology.
