As Principal Forward Deployed Data Scientist, you will be a technical leader embedded with Oil & Gas customers in Houston, driving adoption of NEXUS from proof-of-value through production deployment. You'll own end-to-end technical execution: framing business problems, engineering features, benchmarking against legacy baselines (XGBoost, LightGBM), and validating models for measurable ROI.
Key responsibilities include managing multi-stakeholder customer relationships (IT, C-suite, data science teams), translating field insights into product roadmap inputs, handling last-mile integration challenges (VPC, on-prem, air-gapped environments), and collaborating with research, product, sales, and solution architecture teams to align diverse stakeholders.
You must hold a PhD/Master's in CS, Math, or Stats (or equivalent deep statistical literacy) with 7+ years as a technical individual contributor in data science, ML, or applied science. You need strong customer-facing experience in complex enterprise or industrial settings, expertise in containerization (Docker), orchestration, and performant APIs (FastAPI/Flask), and mastery of end-to-end ML pipelines including data handling (PySpark, Pandas), memory optimization, and business-focused model optimization.
Nice-to-have skills include PyTorch, cloud-native ML pipelines (AWS/GCP/Azure), prior forward-deployed or staff engineering roles, and domain expertise in Oil & Gas, energy, utilities, industrials, or logistics.
