Hims & Hers, a NYSE-traded health and wellness platform, is seeking a Principal Engineer to architect the productionization of AI-driven patient care experiences. The Applied AI team is transforming how patients move through intake, diagnosis, and ongoing care companionship using AI. While research-focused teammates experiment rapidly, this role owns the production counterpart: taking working prototypes and making them robust, scalable, and reliable enough to serve millions of patients at the core of the platform. You will own the end-to-end service architecture for the Applied AI stack, ensuring individual services blend into a coherent patient-facing experience. This is a hands-on role balancing near-term delivery with long-term architectural durability. Key responsibilities include: architecting the overall Applied AI service layer; productionizing AI-driven experiences by hardening services for uptime and scale; instilling best practices around observability, debugging, and operational readiness; mentoring senior technical leaders across the organization; navigating ambiguity and removing cross-functional blockers; translating customer needs into scalable technical solutions; and designing systems that support sustainable growth. You bring 15+ years of professional software engineering with deep architectural expertise and a proven track record delivering production systems at scale. You have influenced technical strategy at the group or organizational level and have hands-on experience standing up services in production with attention to robustness, scalability, and debuggability from day one. You understand full-stack service architecture—how services should integrate, not just how to build individual components. You have a "productionization" mindset, comfortable being the counterweight to fast-moving research cultures, and you stay close to code and architecture, not just roadmaps. Some exposure to LLM or AI-powered systems is expected. You think long-term, balance delivery with durable design, communicate across research, product, and clinical teams, and mentor senior engineering talent while reinforcing high technical standards.
