Okta is seeking a Principal Data Platform Engineer to serve as the technical visionary for the company's internal data platform supporting AI use cases. Reporting to the Sr Manager of Enterprise Data Platform, you will own the technical strategy, implementation, and scalability of the AI and data product roadmap.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the technical strategy and implementation for Okta's AI data platform, with focus on Snowflake, AWS, and dbt
- Designing and implementing robust security and governance frameworks as core platform pillars, meeting high-compliance and high-security standards
- Building automated solutions for data classification, access control, and vulnerability management (Nessus/Qualys)
- Implementing infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD (GitHub/GitLab) strategies for secure, reproducible deployments
- Setting engineering excellence standards, driving best practices in code quality, system design, and operational readiness
- Partnering with the Principal Product Manager on technical feasibility, scoping, and architectural guidance
- Communicating technical vision, strategy, and trade-offs to senior leadership and cross-functional teams
- Collaborating with AI, security, and analytics teams to ensure the platform meets complex business needs
You bring 10+ years of data engineering experience, with at least 5 years architecting data platforms for data products, analytics, and/or AI-driven products. Deep mastery of cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, AWS), data pipeline tools (dbt, Airflow, Fivetran), and infrastructure automation (Terraform) is essential. You have deep expertise in data governance, access control, and security within modern data stacks. A proven track record of partnering with product and business leaders to translate vision into high-impact solutions is required. You balance immediate execution with building scalable, maintainable foundations for future innovation.
