Alumni Ventures is a venture capital platform with $1.4B+ in assets under management and investments in 1,600+ companies. The firm operates a network of 850,000+ accredited members and 40+ dedicated investors, providing access to high-quality venture deals typically reserved for institutions.
As Principal based in the New York City office, you will source, evaluate, and execute investments in promising startups alongside a close-knit, four-person investment team reporting directly to the Managing Partner. This is a broad, generalist investing role spanning multiple sectors and stages, with primary focus on Seed and Series A rounds, plus some Pre-Seed and Growth-stage opportunities.
Key responsibilities include:
**Deal Sourcing:** Develop investment theses and proactively source high-quality leads aligned with firm initiatives. Drive strong conversion rates from sourced deals to qualified investment opportunities.
**Due Diligence:** Lead initial due diligence on potential investments, engaging directly with founders, customers, and market data. Analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging opportunities to strengthen investment decisions.
**Investment Execution:** Drive successful execution of approved investments from term sheet to close. Maintain alignment with firm investment strategy and contribute to building a high-performing portfolio.
**Portfolio Support:** Play an active role in supporting portfolio companies post-investment. Build deep relationships with lead investors, founders, and industry partners. Your network development will be critical—relationships with other investors and founders often determine access to the most promising deals.
You'll work closely with the Managing Partner, Senior Principal, and Senior Associates to identify promising companies and build the portfolio of approximately 25 new investments annually, plus 25+ follow-on investments in existing companies. The firm operates as a co-investor, typically alongside lead firms rather than leading rounds independently.
Alumni Ventures maintains a 5-day-a-week in-office culture across offices in Boston, New York, Chicago, Menlo Park, Manchester NH, London, and Tokyo, emphasizing collaboration, mentorship, and shared momentum.
