Okta is seeking a Principal Architect for its Professional Services R&D team, a newly formed strategic group focused on designing and building reusable, scalable assets and tools that empower delivery teams and partners. In this principal technical leadership role, you will own the end-to-end technical architecture for all reusable assets and solutions developed by the R&D team, defining the architectural vision and standards that ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and secure.
Key responsibilities include establishing architectural standards, patterns, and best practices to guide the development team; evaluating and selecting appropriate technologies, frameworks, and platforms to meet project requirements and long-term business goals; mentoring engineers and the Development Manager on complex technical challenges and architectural principles; leading design reviews to ensure alignment with defined architecture and security standards; collaborating with Product Management to assess technical feasibility of new ideas and contribute to the R&D roadmap; and prototyping and spiking new technologies to de-risk projects and drive innovation.
You will work across a technology stack including Java, React, Node.js, Python, and .NET, with deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native solution design. The role requires 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3+ years in a technical leadership or architect role. You should have expert-level knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, and distributed systems; proven ability to think strategically and create long-term technical vision; strong understanding of security best practices and identity concepts (IAM, OAuth, SAML); and exceptional communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
