Parloa is an AI-powered customer experience platform that has powered over one billion interactions for enterprise brands including Booking.com, HealthEquity, Allianz, SAP, and TUI. The company is building agentic AI systems that enable meaningful customer exchanges rather than transactional interactions.
As Principal Applied Scientist, you will define and drive Parloa's applied AI strategy across AI agents and Generative AI systems. This is a highly hands-on, high-impact role at the intersection of research and production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and lead applied AI initiatives across agent systems, LLM evaluation, and model optimization
- Own ambiguous problem spaces end-to-end, from problem framing and experimentation to production impact
- Design and implement evaluation and benchmarking frameworks, establishing new industry standards where needed
- Drive innovation in agentic systems, including routing, memory, and context engineering
- Prototype and validate new approaches such as model combinations, fine-tuning strategies, and open-weight models
- Translate research into production-ready solutions in collaboration with engineering teams
- Act as a technical authority and mentor, shaping best practices across the organization
- Establish and lead the Applied Science guild to foster knowledge sharing
- Influence product and technical strategy by identifying where applied science unlocks the most value
You bring 12+ years of experience in Applied Science or related fields, including at least 5 years of hands-on ML/AI work with a proven track record of production systems. You have strong recent experience with LLMs and Generative AI in production environments, deep expertise in evaluation methodologies and benchmarking, and demonstrated technical leadership. Experience with agent-based systems, multi-step LLM workflows, model routing, fine-tuning, and human-in-the-loop evaluation is highly valued. You excel at operating at both strategic and execution levels, with strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
