Vi is seeking a Principal Applied AI Engineer to build and deploy production AI agent systems for healthcare and life sciences enterprises. You will own the full stack—from data ingestion and CRM/EHR integration to real-time agent infrastructure and HIPAA-compliant delivery. This is a client-facing role where you translate enterprise workflows into AI-orchestrated automation, working closely with clinical, IT, and operations teams.
Key responsibilities include: building end-to-end AI-powered voice and messaging agents; designing and implementing data ingestion pipelines from CRMs, EHR/EMR systems, pharmacy platforms, and claims feeds; writing production infrastructure in TypeScript (agent runtime, routing, orchestration) and Python (training, embeddings, model registry); engineering within HIPAA constraints including real-time PHI access, de-identification, US-only data residency, and encrypted recordings; designing relational and caching databases supporting real-time operations and compliance audit trails; implementing output guardrails to ensure regulatory compliance; and codifying per-client configuration patterns into reusable platform components.
You'll collaborate with product, account management, and platform engineering to translate field learnings into platform improvements and accelerate client onboarding cycles.
Required: 7+ years shipping customer-facing production software (solutions engineering or consulting backgrounds acceptable if you wrote and deployed production code); fluency in modern languages (JavaScript/Node, TypeScript, Python); experience building real-time systems (WebSockets, streaming, event-driven architectures, high-throughput APIs); production integration work with CRM platforms, healthcare data systems, or data warehouses; experience building retrieval and ingestion pipelines with guardrails and caching; data engineering patterns (ETL/ELT, data quality, heterogeneous sources); cloud infrastructure comfort (AWS/GCP: containers, CI/CD, monitoring, security); ability to work within HIPAA-regulated environments; strong client-facing communication skills; and startup disposition with low ego and high agency.
Nice-to-have: voice/telephony infrastructure experience; LLM orchestration and agentic system design; healthcare/life sciences domain knowledge; workflow or rules engine experience; product sensibility; prior healthcare tech or AI-native startup experience.
