Salary: USD 118,000 - 151,000 / annual
Octopus Energy is a tech-powered energy company focused on making renewable energy accessible, affordable, and easy to understand. The Global Platform Engineering team is responsible for architecting, building, and maintaining the core infrastructure, tooling, and services that enable engineering teams to deliver at scale safely and reliably.
As a Platform Engineer II, you will contribute to the design and delivery of systems and services that form the foundation of the company's platforms. Working alongside experienced engineers, you'll build scalable solutions, improve automation, and support cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and developer experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to building and improving platform services through code, code reviews, and deployment support
- Designing and implementing solutions alongside senior engineers to improve scalability, reliability, and developer experience
- Maintaining and operating core systems such as CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and monitoring tools
- Participating in incident response and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement
- Collaborating with other engineers to understand needs and translate them into practical platform solutions
- Taking ownership of tasks and smaller projects while developing toward owning larger platform areas
Required qualifications include solid communication skills, hands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud provider, familiarity with security best practices and automation tools, and experience contributing to production systems in distributed or cloud environments.
Desired technical experience includes Docker and Kubernetes (Amazon EKS), Python or scripting languages, Datadog or similar monitoring tools, messaging queues or event-driven systems (RabbitMQ), Terraform or infrastructure-as-code tools, networking basics, PostgreSQL or relational databases, and Linux system administration.
Bonus experience includes exposure to multi-team environments, interest in data-focused systems (analytics, telemetry, IoT), CI/CD and observability practices, and a proactive mindset for learning from senior engineers.
