Voltus is the leading platform connecting distributed energy resources to electricity markets. The company helps commercial and industrial (C&I) customers, residential partners, and grid services providers earn revenue by optimizing their flexible load, distributed generation, energy storage, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle resources.
You will build and lead a team of Battery Sales Directors focused on contracting batteries with Voltus's existing customers and prospects in the PJM market. C&I demand response customers can deliver significantly more capacity with a battery than with curtailment alone, and this role exists to unlock that opportunity by building the team, tools, and processes to contract and deploy hundreds of MW of batteries quickly and efficiently.
The Battery Sales Team sits within the broader Partnerships Team. You will work with Regional and Enterprise teams to identify customer opportunities, collaborate with Partnership Sales Directors and Battery Operations throughout the development cycle, and ensure each battery is deployed and participating in market programs.
Key responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, and training Battery Sales Directors; selling batteries directly to end customers and securing Letters of Intent (LOIs); partnering with customers and internal teams to deliver positive experiences through Energy Services Agreements (ESAs), battery development, commercial operation date (COD), and market registration; feeding customer and market intelligence back to the broader battery team; and iterating on the battery sales playbook with your team.
Success is measured by MW of battery LOIs signed, MW of ESAs signed, and MW of batteries enrolled in market programs.
You understand how C&I customers think and can move organizations toward complex energy decisions quickly. You are customer-focused, detail-oriented across long sales cycles, and collaborate comfortably with senior stakeholders at customers, partners, and across Voltus. As a player-coach, you will hire and enable new sellers while rolling up your sleeves to figure out new things in a fast-evolving battery market. An open mind and grit are essential.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in business development, partnerships, or sales in the energy industry
- Proven ability to manage long, complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders in large organizations
- Proven ability to build, coach, and develop high-performing sales teams
- Familiarity with wholesale electricity markets, demand response programs, and batteries
- Comfort with ambiguity; you will help shape the battery sales approach rather than wait for a fully defined playbook
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including developing processes, tools, and campaigns with internal teams
- Experience with Google Workspace, Salesforce, and Slack preferred
- Must be authorized to work in the US or Canada; Voltus does not sponsor visas or transfers
