Modal Labs is hiring its first People Operations Lead for the London office. You'll build and run the people function end-to-end as the London team grows into one of Modal's core hubs.
Modal is a serverless cloud platform for AI, data, and compute-intensive applications. The company recently raised $355M in Series C funding at a $4.65B valuation and has crossed $300M+ ARR. Customers include Lovable, Ramp, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno.
In this foundational, high-ownership role, you'll own all people operations for the London team: onboarding, offboarding, payroll coordination, and benefits administration. You'll be the first point of contact for London employees on HR matters, supporting managers and ensuring smooth experiences. You'll manage people data in the HRIS, ensure UK benefits are competitive and compliant, and coordinate the people side of building Modal's UK presence with external vendors and global teams.
You'll also steward the London office operations—space, supplies, events, and team bonding—to create a welcoming environment. Additionally, you'll own local recruiting operations in partnership with the global Talent team, handling interview logistics and candidate experience on the ground.
This role requires 5+ years in People Ops or People & Talent generalist roles, ideally in fast-growing tech. You need working knowledge of UK employment norms and compliance, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work autonomously. You're a clear communicator comfortable shifting between strategic thinking and hands-on execution, and you're excited to be a foundational hire building processes from scratch.
