Hippo is a technology-driven insurance platform that uses data and innovation to help homeowners and businesses protect what matters most. The company operates as a diversified carrier platform, partnering with managing general agents (MGAs) to deliver tailored program solutions.
You will serve as the primary People Business Partner to assigned stakeholders across Hippo's business lines and core functions, including product management, underwriting, actuarial, business development, and other enabling groups. This is a hands-on, independent role where you will manage the full HRBP cycle without day-to-day oversight.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising leaders on organizational health, talent planning, performance management, and workforce planning
- Translating complex business priorities (new product lines, portfolio growth, program partnerships) into people recommendations; anticipating people risks before they become operational problems
- Coaching managers across operational and business functions on performance management, difficult conversations, and team development
- Partnering with Learning & Development to strengthen manager and leadership effectiveness
- Driving culture and engagement within client groups by identifying issues early and facilitating solutions
- Executing employee relations case management from intake through resolution with disciplined documentation and risk-aware judgment
- Advising managers on policy interpretation, conduct matters, and performance actions; ensuring consistent and legally compliant application
- Partnering with People Operations, Talent Acquisition, People Programs, and Total Rewards to deliver integrated people programs
- Interpreting workforce data to surface trends and actionable recommendations
- Contributing to cross-functional People initiatives and supporting People leadership on enterprise priorities
You are a credible, independent partner who thrives in complex, cross-functional environments. You bring hands-on experience supporting product, underwriting, actuarial, business development, or other operational and strategic functions, and you know how to build credibility with subject-matter experts while driving the fundamentals of great HR business partnering. You are comfortable partnering with actuarial or underwriting leaders on talent planning, coaching managers through difficult conversations, and briefing senior leadership on engagement trends. You hold a high bar for consistency and confidentiality, and you build trust quickly with both technical experts and business leaders.
Reports to: Director, People Business Partnerships
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (advanced degree a plus)
- 5+ years of progressive HR Business Partner experience
- Demonstrated experience supporting technical, fast-moving client groups and translating their priorities into people strategy
- Property & Casualty insurance experience
- Experience supporting actuarial, underwriting, reinsurance, or MGA/program business functions
- HR certifications a plus: SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or GPHR
