Oyster is a global employment platform enabling companies to hire, pay, and support talent anywhere in the world. This role is part of Oyster's in-house payroll operations team, focused on Portugal—one of the company's most important markets.
You will own the complete Portuguese payroll cycle end-to-end, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. Core responsibilities include: running native Portuguese payroll cycles independently; processing and validating employee master data (new hires, terminations, salary changes, variable pay, benefits including meal vouchers, absences, and garnishments); executing pre- and post-payroll validations and quality checks; handling all statutory filings including monthly IRS withholding declarations (DMR filings to Segurança Social) and annual Modelo 10 filings; managing subsídio de doença and parental reimbursement claims; maintaining employee IRS withholding codes; supporting payroll system procedures and testing legislative updates; learning and applying Portuguese tax law (Direito Fiscal), social security law (Direito da Segurança Social), labor law (Direito do Trabalho), and collective labor agreements (CCT); reconciling payroll journals and GL mappings; handling assigned client payroll tickets with escalation as needed; preparing statutory and ad-hoc reports including EU Pay Transparency Directive compliance and GDPR/RGPD documentation; supporting internal and external audits; and maintaining SOPs and shared knowledge documentation.
You'll work within a distributed, async-first global team and collaborate with Oyster's Product team on system improvements. The role requires hands-on execution of structured processes, meticulous attention to detail, and a customer-first mindset when handling client queries.
