Distro is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support payroll processing for a growing client base. This role handles all payroll-related processing activities, including day-to-day payroll processing for scheduled and off-cycle payrolls, importing and manually entering payroll changes (hours, employee updates, earnings, deductions, tax overrides), calculating payroll, and confirming accurate entry of client-provided data through control totals and manual review. Key responsibilities include responding timely and accurately to client inquiries via email, cases, and phone; partnering with Payroll Supervisors on special projects; managing and supporting an assigned book of business; and building effective relationships with team members and peers across disciplines. The role requires staying current on best practices through webinars and training, and completing additional projects as assigned. The Payroll Specialist must demonstrate effective time management, maintain accurate records, and ensure all payroll tasks are completed according to established schedules and compliance requirements. The position requires the ability to multitask while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and interact professionally with employees at all levels. The role is computer-intensive, requiring extended periods at a desk, frequent use of monitors and standard office equipment, and sustained visual focus while reviewing detailed payroll data. The environment involves regular interaction with clients and internal teams through email, phone, and virtual platforms, as well as handling confidential employee information in accordance with strict privacy and security standards. REQUIREMENTS: - High school diploma or equivalent (or combination of experience, skills, education including relevant nontraditional degree programs, certifications, or job training programs) - Minimum of one year's experience in Customer Service - At least one year of payroll experience preferred but not required - Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and demonstrated ability to learn other applications as needed - Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data validation) - Strong analytical thinking to troubleshoot payroll issues, interpret data, and determine solutions - Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment when evaluating situations and determining appropriate courses of action - Proven ability to partner with cross-functional departments (HR, Finance, Operations) to resolve payroll-related issues - No required licenses or certifications
