Remote is a global employment platform that enables businesses to recruit, pay, and manage international teams compliantly. As a Payroll Risk & Compliance Expert, you will serve as the trusted regulatory advisor for your assigned country or region, helping design, build, and operate compliant payroll products at scale.
You will be the subject matter expert for payroll legislation, tax, social security, labour, and employment requirements within your jurisdictions. Your expertise will directly influence product design, operational processes, customer solutions, market expansion, and compliance strategy across the business.
Key responsibilities include:
**Compliance Authority**: Act as the primary payroll compliance expert for assigned countries/regions. Interpret payroll, tax, social security, labour, and employment legislation. Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on products, processes, and customers. Provide clear, practical, commercially balanced compliance guidance.
**Product Partnership**: Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to embed compliance into product development. Translate legislative requirements into clear business and product requirements. Review product designs to identify compliance risks and opportunities. Validate system logic, calculations, workflows, and outputs against regulatory requirements.
**Strategic Advisory**: Advise stakeholders on complex compliance questions and emerging regulatory developments. Support customer-facing teams with high-risk compliance matters. Provide guidance for market expansion and new product offerings. Act as trusted advisor across Product, Operations, Customer Experience, and Leadership.
**Compliance Assurance**: Conduct compliance assessments and reviews to validate regulatory adherence. Lead or support regulatory audits and investigations. Identify compliance gaps and recommend remediation strategies. Support development of scalable compliance assurance frameworks.
**Regulatory Intelligence**: Monitor legislative developments and emerging trends. Assess business impact and communicate changes across the organization. Partner with Product and Operations teams to implement regulatory changes successfully.
**Framework Development**: Create and maintain compliance documentation, rules libraries, and knowledge assets. Design repeatable processes that reduce manual interpretation and improve consistency. Support development of compliance controls and governance frameworks. Contribute to automation and compliance-by-design initiatives.
This role is part of Remote's Payroll Compliance & Advisory Centre of Excellence, working across multiple teams to ensure compliance is embedded into everything the company builds and delivers. Success requires a unique combination of regulatory expertise, systems thinking, stakeholder management, and commercial awareness.
