Lovable is a software creation platform that has grown to 60+ million projects since launch in November 2024, recognized as one of Europe's fastest-growing AI companies and TIME's 100 Most Influential Companies. The company is building from Stockholm with teams in London, Boston, New York, and San Francisco.
You will be Lovable's first dedicated Payroll Lead, owning payroll strategy and execution at a critical inflection point. The current model is outsourced; your role is to evaluate and decide the optimal operating model—whether to keep it outsourced with oversight, bring it fully in-house, or land in a hybrid approach. You'll shape this decision and lead the transition.
Key responsibilities include: designing and owning the payroll delivery model; building a tight, highly automated, reliable payroll operation with accuracy and control as standard; owning payroll accounting including journals, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close support; driving automation to eliminate recurring manual work; managing payroll and tax treatment of equity events (option exercises, secondaries, clawbacks, benefits in kind) in coordination with Finance and Tax; owning payroll taxes and compliance including employer contributions, PAYE, social security, year-end reporting, and record retention; maintaining payroll controls and audit trails; and growing into a Global Payroll Lead role as the business scales internationally.
You should be an AI-pilled payroll expert with deep Swedish payroll knowledge including Skatteverket employer reporting (AGI), employer contributions, tax/SINK, pensions, benefits, LAS, and BFL. You need 8+ years of proven payroll ownership experience, senior-manager level capability, strong payroll accounting skills, exposure to equity/share-based compensation and benefits-in-kind taxation, and ideally international or multi-entity payroll experience (UK, US, EOR). You must be comfortable with ambiguity, greenfield remits, and working independently while maintaining audit-ready controls. Fluent English required; Swedish is a strong plus. Based in Stockholm or willing to relocate.
