Salary: USD 120,000 - 140,000 / annual
Notion is seeking a Payroll Analyst to join its Accounting team and manage accurate, on-time U.S. payrolls while providing operational coverage for the payroll function. You'll work with a fast-growing workforce to ensure compliance and dependability while improving the systems and workflows that support payroll operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage and reconcile bi-weekly, quarterly (commissions), and off-cycle payrolls using Workday for U.S. employees
- Own and administer the Workday Time Tracking module for non-exempt hourly employees, ensuring timecards are accurately submitted and approved on time
- Process leave of absence amounts, fringe benefits (Carrot, BenePass), equity transactions, and 401K/Roth contributions using Fidelity
- Liaise with ADP support to ensure accuracy and timely processing of garnishments, taxes, and net pay
- Collaborate with People, Finance, and external payroll partners to identify and improve payroll workflows
- Serve as the first point of contact for U.S. payroll inquiries, providing excellent employee experience
- Generate and analyze payroll reports using Workday
- Reconcile and prepare month-end U.S. payroll journal entries
- Assist with balance sheet reconciliations
- Support the Senior Payroll Analyst as needed
- Complete ad-hoc tasks and other duties as assigned
The role is based in either San Francisco or New York City, with office presence required on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (Anchor Days).
Requirements:
- 4+ years of U.S. payroll processing experience for small to midsize organizations
- Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll compliance and understanding of Federal/State payroll tax and labor laws
- Strong in-house payroll system experience with ability to quickly learn new systems
- Ability to handle multiple projects and competing priorities in a high-growth environment
- High proficiency in Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, formulas) with curiosity to use AI tools thoughtfully in payroll workflows
Nice to haves:
- Experience with Workday payroll system, ADP smart compliance, or vendor implementation
- Experience with NetSuite and creating/reconciling payroll journal entries
- Experience with all Workday modules (HCM, Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, etc.)
