Discord's Payments, Fraud & Risk team is seeking a Payments & Fraud Analyst to own core functions end-to-end, driving fraud mitigation, payments optimization, and financial risk strategy. This role sits at the intersection of Payments Strategy, Engineering, Legal, Product, and Revenue, embedding fraud and financial risk expertise into Discord's growth initiatives. You will own high-scale fraud detection and mitigation, payments operations, and risk assessment within your assigned area from strategy through execution and post-launch measurement. Key responsibilities include leading complex fraud investigations and root cause analyses, translating findings into concrete proposals for rule improvements and cross-functional action. You'll write SQL queries to analyze fraud and payments data, building reporting and monitoring dashboards and alerts (e.g., Mode, Datadog) that track performance and inform decision-making. You will program manage cross-functional initiatives with Engineering, Legal, Payments Strategy, Product, Revenue, and other partners—setting milestones, managing dependencies, and driving delivery. You'll contribute to risk assessments for new product launches, identifying fraud exposure early and executing mitigation strategies. Communication of business impact to cross-functional stakeholders is critical, as is mentoring junior team members and contributing to team-wide quality and knowledge sharing. Required qualifications include 4–5+ years of experience in payments, fraud, or risk operations with direct, hands-on exposure to card network rules, chargebacks, and dispute processes. Deep working knowledge of payments flows, card network rules (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, etc.), and chargeback/dispute processes is essential. You must be proficient in SQL with hands-on experience querying and analyzing large datasets to drive fraud and payments decisions, and experienced building reporting and monitoring workflows using BI and alerting tools (e.g., Mode, Datadog, or equivalent). You should demonstrate proven ability to independently own an end-to-end function and execute mid-size programs with minimal oversight, making judgment calls that weigh business impact and tradeoffs. Comfort navigating ambiguous problems where the issue is known but the right solution requires evaluating multiple options is important, as is the ability to anticipate near-term risks and proactively flag or mitigate them. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, with the ability to translate complex, technical findings into business-impact narratives for cross-functional and senior stakeholders. Experience mentoring others or serving as a technical resource on a team, with a collaborative, cross-functional operating style, is valued.
