Anthropic is seeking a Director of Technical Revenue Accounting to lead the company's complex revenue recognition function. In this role, you will own the ASC 606 technical accounting memo portfolio, serve as the senior accounting decision-maker for new product revenue recognition treatments, and partner directly with Deal Desk, Product, Legal, and Partnership leadership to set technical revenue policy direction. Key responsibilities include authoring and reviewing position papers on complex revenue scenarios; leading technical revenue assessment for all new product offerings and programs; serving as the senior revenue accounting partner to Deal Desk, Sales, and Legal on non-standard deal structures; providing guidance on partnership and marketplace arrangements including principal-vs-agent determinations; owning key processes such as SSP analysis, contractual credit amortization, and reseller/partner incentives; establishing and maintaining the revenue contract review framework with ASC 606 checklists and escalation paths; leading technical research on emerging revenue recognition issues; translating complex accounting requirements into actionable business guidance; reviewing revenue-related month-end close entries and flux analysis; and driving process improvement and revenue system implementation projects. You will need a track record of authoring technical accounting memos on complex, judgment-intensive revenue arrangements and strong knowledge of ASC 606 across performance obligation analysis, standalone selling prices, contract modifications, principal-vs-agent analysis, material rights, and variable consideration. Required skills include ability to articulate complex positions clearly, hands-on experience with revenue recognition tools (Workday Financial Management, Zuora RevPro), SQL proficiency for querying large datasets, and proven ability to lead cross-functional workstreams. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments. Preferred qualifications include 14+ years of progressive accounting experience with 4+ years in technical revenue leadership; Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with CPA required; Big 4 technical accounting background combined with industry experience; technical accounting advisory or implementation experience; experience with cloud marketplace and channel partnership revenue arrangements; familiarity with consumption-based and subscription revenue models; and knowledge of AI/ML and SaaS sector complexities.
