Superb Flooring & Design is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to generate new business and develop a profitable portfolio of flooring customers throughout Southeast Michigan. This is a hunter-oriented sales role combining field prospecting, showroom sales, relationship development, construction knowledge, estimating, and account management.
The representative will independently build a pipeline and acquire customers through prospecting builders, developers, contractors, property managers, designers, commercial organizations, and homeowners. You will conduct outbound calls, canvassing, door-to-door outreach, job-site visits, networking, and referral-development activities. The role involves managing approximately 90% of assigned opportunities from initial contact through closing, including discovery conversations, product recommendations, site visits, estimate preparation, proposal development, negotiation, and closing.
Key responsibilities include new business development across residential, builder, contractor, property-management, and commercial segments; account and relationship development with repeat customers; full-cycle sales management; flooring and construction estimating (reviewing project plans, measurements, preparing estimates, calculating quantities and waste factors); product consultation on hard-surface and soft-surface flooring; showroom and residential sales; commercial and builder sales; project coordination and handoff to operations; and networking at industry events.
You will work primarily from the Troy, Michigan office, spending time in the showroom, completing estimates, preparing proposals, and managing the pipeline. Field work includes prospecting, customer appointments, job-site visits, and networking throughout Southeast Michigan (potentially extending north toward Flint, west toward Lansing, and south toward the Ohio border). The position is on-site and field-based with limited work-from-home flexibility.
Compensation includes a $50,000 annual base salary plus uncapped, performance-based commission with total earning potential of approximately $50,000 to $150,000+ annually. Earnings increase based on volume, profitability, and value of business generated. An auto allowance is provided for approved business-related travel. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) plan with company match; paid time off; training and professional development; and free food and snacks.
The typical ramp-up period is 60 to 90 days. Residential and retail opportunities may close and install relatively quickly, while builder and commercial opportunities may take several months from initial prospecting to installation and payment. Some new-construction accounts may require four to six months before projects are completed and commission is realized.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must-Have: Previous outside sales, business development, canvassing, door-to-door sales, construction sales, home-services sales, or comparable customer-acquisition experience. Demonstrated willingness to generate new business independently. Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Confidence approaching strangers, contractors, business owners, and decision-makers. Ability to manage the full sales cycle and close business. Strong follow-up habits and pipeline discipline. Ability to manage an assigned territory and schedule with limited supervision. Valid driver's license. Reliable personal vehicle. Ability to travel throughout Southeast Michigan. Comfort working in office, showroom, field, and active job-site environments. Strong critical-thinking, logical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to learn a complex operating system and internal sales processes. Resilience when facing rejection and extended sales cycles. Professional appearance and customer-facing presence.
Preferred: Flooring sales experience. Construction, building materials, home improvement, interior design, property management, or contractor-sales experience. Flooring or construction estimating experience. Ability to read plans, drawings, measurements, scopes of work, or project specifications. Experience selling hard-surface flooring products (hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, tile, laminate). Experience with carpet and other soft-surface flooring products. Existing relationships with builders, developers, contractors, designers, or property managers. Experience managing B2B and residential customers. Experience selling long-cycle construction projects. Familiarity with job-site conditions, project schedules, subcontractors, and installation coordination. Track record of meeting sales, pipeline, activity, and revenue targets. Experience participating in industry associations or local networking organizations.
