Generare Bioscience is a biotech platform company that captures genetic instructions from microbes, expresses them in the laboratory, and tests their biological activity at scale. The company has raised $25M, built a collection of 14,000 soil samples and 50,000 microbial strains, and produced over 500 novel scaffolds. They plan to scale production to over 1,000 scaffolds annually within 18 months, requiring laboratory expansion and capacity infrastructure. You will lead the Operations & Capacity Project Manager role within the Intelligence & Scale-up team, reporting to the Operations department and working closely with production teams, lab management, and department heads. The role has two primary dimensions: **Project Delivery:** You will oversee the laboratory extension project from conception to completion. This includes framing surface and equipment requirements with department heads, translating needs into plans with the laboratory designer, completing commissioning of new facilities, identifying and evaluating candidate sites for future full-capacity facilities, preparing site recommendations for executive committee review, and planning and executing the move (schedule, budget, cross-team coordination, continuity of operations). **Analytical & Operational Stewardship:** You will build and maintain the tools, models, and databases that provide visibility into production capacity, costs, and constraints. This includes keeping the process database current and trustworthy (capacity, cycle times, yields, costs), monitoring available capacity against actual use and anticipating equipment needs, building fast analytical tools to answer operational questions (e.g., ROI of new instruments, cost of capacity choices, bottleneck identification), acting as the reference point on cost of goods sold (COGS), managing the equipment base and approval processes, and anticipating equipment and space needs for R&D-to-production transfers. You will also work with the modeling team to translate projection platforms into operational answers: what throughput by when, with what equipment, space, and staffing. You will bring laboratory reality into those models, set activity targets, inform trade-offs between projects, and track progress against targets with weekly indicators and variance analysis. Success means laboratories opening on schedule and ready for day-one operations, capacity being steered rather than observed, throughput targets being met with early visibility into gaps, and the ability to answer three core questions: what is our real capacity today, what does it cost to run, and what can we credibly commit to producing next year. **Requirements:** - Scientific background and familiarity with laboratory environments - 3–6 years of project management experience: holding schedules and budgets, moving subjects forward with people who do not report to you - Demonstrated ability to present recommendations to executive committees and defend them under questioning - Comfort with numbers: building projection models, unit costs, and recognizing implausible figures - Appetite for building tracking tools rather than only using them; ability to prototype tools via scripts, no-code platforms, or similar - Presence in the field and easy working relationships with operational teams - Sound judgment under pressure and ability to discuss directly with executive teams - Professional fluency in French and English - Typical backgrounds: biological engineering or biotechnology engineer with 3–6 years in production, industrialization, or laboratory operations; 3–6 years in operations or industrial performance consulting on a scientific foundation; or quality/production role in a CDMO or pharmaceutical group seeking more autonomy - Preferred: experience with laboratory commissioning, capacity planning, or cost of goods modeling
