FlixBus is seeking an Operational Accountant to strengthen its Finance Operations & Tax function, taking ownership of statutory, tax, and reporting responsibilities across the Adriatic region (Croatia and Serbia). Based in Sofia with a hybrid work model, you will oversee accounting activities for the East region in close collaboration with the Sofia-based accounting hub.
Key responsibilities include ensuring timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual closings with Balance Sheet reconciliations and proper handling of payments, taxes, and statutory obligations. You will prepare and review financial statements under both local GAAP and IFRS, managing adjustments and mappings between local and IFRS Charts of Accounts. You'll act as a key contact for external auditors and respond to HQ requests on reporting, accounting, and tax topics.
You will coordinate local tax compliance (corporate tax, VAT, and other local taxes) in collaboration with external advisors while ensuring correct implementation of group guidelines. Additionally, you'll contribute to the harmonization, standardization, and automation of finance processes across Europe, supporting the rollout of the new Finance Operations & Tax organization. You'll partner closely with FP&A, Billing, and operational teams, and serve as a reliable backup for your manager to ensure continuity of key finance and tax activities.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of experience in an accounting firm (audit, accounting, or advisory), strong foundations in accounting, financial statements, and financial reporting. Experience with IFRS and multinational environments is a strong advantage. Knowledge of Croatian and/or Serbian accounting and tax regulations is highly valued. You should be comfortable navigating between group standards and local statutory requirements with solid analytical mindset and attention to detail. Fluent English is required; Serbian or Croatian language skills are a strong plus. An autonomous, entrepreneurial approach with strong ownership, adaptability, and team spirit is essential.
