Defense Unicorns is seeking a Mission Director to lead full-lifecycle business development and program execution for the Air Force. This is a quota-carrying role combining business development, program management, and team leadership.
As Mission Director, you will identify and develop net-new Air Force opportunities, build trusted relationships with customers and stakeholders, and own a diversified portfolio of business. You will shape customer problems into solutions leveraging Defense Unicorns' cloud-native software delivery platform, lead opportunities through proposal and contract award, and remain accountable for contract execution including cost, schedule, performance, staffing, margin, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities include: building the business through net-new opportunity identification and relationship development; shaping and closing opportunities by defining customer problems and leading through proposal and negotiation; owning contract execution as program leader with direct responsibility for delivery; building and leading teams required for each contract; and growing the portfolio by maintaining an active pipeline, identifying follow-on work, and expanding customer relationships.
As your portfolio grows in size and complexity, you will increasingly lead through program managers and delivery leaders while retaining accountability for portfolio outcomes. This role is designed for someone who wants broad ownership and can operate across business development, contracting, staffing, and execution.
Required experience includes background within the Air Force or closely related defense environment, understanding of military culture and acquisition processes, and experience in military operations, government program management, acquisition, contracting, business development, or defense industry program leadership. You should have working knowledge of federal acquisition, strong commercial judgment, demonstrated ability to lead teams, and technical fluency sufficient to understand Defense Unicorns' products including cloud-native technologies, DevSecOps, Kubernetes, and modern software delivery concepts. Candidates located near major Air Force hubs are preferred. Travel approximately 25-40% required.
